We seek to provide educational opportunities for students to become active citizens in their community by helping students register to vote, bringing in political icons to speak about their experience, and showing political debates, forums, etc. Leadership & Community Engagement does not endorse, support, or encourage a particular political party, but rather provides opportunities to stay informed. Each year, on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is observed as a "day on, not a day off." MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."
On this day of service, Leadership & Community Engagement partners with the Levine Scholars to offer several volunteer opportunities at local Charlotte non-profits, including the Jamil Niner Food Pantry, in conjunction with this national event. These opportunities are open to students, faculty and staff of UNC Charlotte.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is an annual program where people come together across the country to draw attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness. Leadership & Community Engagement participates by hosting educational, service, fundraising and advocacy events on campus at UNC Charlotte. These events include volunteering at Crisis Assistance Ministry, a discussion on the Charlotte Community, a documentary screening, and working with both Hospitality House and Habitat for Humanity.
National Volunteer Week is a week full of activities that encourages and celebrates the power of volunteerism. This week shines line on the value that volunteering in local communities has on the overall global climate. This week was established by Presidential Proclamation in 1974 to highlight the various opportunities available those interested in volunteering.
